Welcome to our website

Did you know that Members have access to over 400 Journals from 29 Family History Societies under the Exchange program? They can be accessed from the Members Area.

Camberley's speaker for March 16 has had to be changed. Tony Painter will talk about The History and Mystery of Maps.

While you are here have a look at the Members Area; there may be information which you might find useful. If you are a member and do not have a Username and password or have forgotten them, then please contact the Webmaster. If you are not a member you can join, see Membership above, for details.

We are West Surrey Family History Society (Registered Charity No: 278091). We are a member of the Family History Federation.
To see the benefits of joining and to join us see the Membership page. Our Safeguarding policy can be found here.
We cover the ancient County of Surrey, both Rural Surrey and the Metropolitan Surrey area, i.e. those parts of the old county of Surrey which are now in Greater London. Our meetings are held in the western part of the County. See the Parish Map, which has a link to pictures of some of the Surrey Churches.
We transcribe records for Surrey and publish them for sale. See the Publications page for what we have. You can buy them by post or online through Genfair. We also have a number of Research Aids which can be downloaded FREE.
Some Parish Registers indexes to Baptisms, Marriage and Burials are now available through Genfair to download to your own computer, PDF files. More parishes being added all the time.
Our bookstall attends many events throughout the year. See the Events page to see where we will be.
On the Saturday of the first weekend in November (the date for 2024 is still to be confirmed) we hold a Family History Fair where our Reference Library, Memorial Inscriptions and Members' Interests are available to consult by everyone. The Society's Bookstall is always in attendance.
We have several meetings centres in West Surrey, where we have talks by experts and Members' knowledge sharing meetings. While most are in the evenings, we also have some afternoon meetings, especially during the winter months. See Meetings for the list of Centres and the talks we are giving.
We also have a number of Education events, including visits to The National Archives at Kew and walks in London. See Events for the visits and walks.
We have a number of services that are available to Members only, including electronic copies of other Societies' Exchange Journals and our Monumental Inscriptions index. These are listed on the Members Area page. Non-members may also view this page to see what benefits are available.
We also have some resources which are free to all, including 'Unwanted Certificates', 'Family announcements in Camberley News' and the Surrey Index of Names. See the Free Resources page.
Members receive a quarterly magazine 'Root and Branch'. See the Root and Branch page to see what is in the current magazine and what we have previously included.
If you can't find what you want, see our Links page, which has some useful links to other websites
