Viv Bennett's talk on the Red Cross volunteers is based on VAD personnel records which have recently gone online. She had been involved with transcribing these records and hopes to include some local VADs from WW1

The history of the construction of the waterway with a tour from old photos will be discussed by the local historian and author David Rose. He will mention the owners and the families associated with it, including the 'Stevens' together with three of the principal cargoes carried on the waterway.

Founded 125 years ago the Institute has a wealth of local history information. The scrapbooks are fascinating - full of local events and families in the Guildford Area. Philip will outline areas which might be useful to family historians.
